Wilmina sits in Berlin's creative Kantstrasse neighbourhood and was once a women's prison; a few design details acknowledge that history with quiet intelligence while the hotel itself is thoroughly minimalist and contemporary. The spa is exceptional, built within the original walls. The restaurant has real ambition; the neighbourhood is among the city's most interesting. An original and very considered stay.

8:04 AM
Time for breakfast. The produce here is seriously impressive – the menu is entirely homemade, and the team collaborates with the best local producers around. Don’t miss the bread; it’s straight from Wilmina Brot, the hotel’s very own bakery.
9:22 AM
Enjoy hazy morning temperatures and head to the rooftop pool for a swim. If you're feeling virtuous, hit the sauna and ice bath afterwards. You’ll feel fresh for the rest of the day.
12:35 PM
Do as the Berliners do and pack up a picnic. Find provisions at Rogacki, a legendary deli that dates back to the 1920s. Grab some bites – potato salad, hard cheese, pickled fish – for a lakeside lunch in Lietzenseepark.
3:38 PM
Post-picnic, head to Bücherbogen, a coolly curated bookshop under the arches. You'll find all categories here, ranging from archival to up-and-coming independent magazines.
4:38 PM
Only a few doors down is Schwarzes Café where all the locals hang. Stick around when the sunsets as it turns into a bit of a buzzy bar.
8:30 PM
Under the green eye of chef Sophia Rudolph, the menu at Lovis is fresh, seasonal and primarily vegetable-focused. She plays on traditional German flavours too. Order the chilled cucumber soup.

Wilmina has carefully created an urban stay within a historically beautiful building (and former women’s prison) by waving in green spaces and nature.
There was a conscious effort to give life to materials. Elements from the renovation have been reused and repurposed.
Wilmina saves energy as much as possible, starting with turning off the heat in the pool for the summer.
