Each low-lying villa has a beautiful flagstone terrace, almost as big as the rooms itself, and inevitably you’ll end up spending more time there than inside. Wake up, head outdoors, say hello to the sun and the sea and breathe.

Sifnos has a church for every day of the year, so across the island are very pretty specks of blue-and-white domes. Right from the hotel, you can wander down the old pilgrim trails and walk over to Kastro, where the beautiful Church of the Seven Martyrs claims territory.

Book, like 6 months in advance, for a lunch res at Cantina. One of the hottest tables to book. The menu is zero-waste, hyper-local and wood-fired. Then stop at Kavos Sunrise for a quirky drink – the space is decked out in Che Guevara memorabilia and yes, rum and mojitos are on the menu.

Hop in the car – it’s best to rent one as taxis are expensive during the summer months – and drive around the island to Vathi Beach. It’s long and curved, with some trees to seek respite under, but it’s one of the prettiest beaches you can reach.

Sister to Cantina, this beachfront restaurant has been luring in summering Athenians and international foodies for a few years now. Book ahead for a high-top table and order all the fish carpaccios and crudos you can get.
