Behind a row of glass towers in Chengdu's Jinjiang District, Upper House enters through Bitieshi, a restored Qing Dynasty courtyard, now full of books and art, before stepping into 100 contemporary rooms and 42 serviced apartments. Calm minimalism inside; buzzing city outside. The restaurant Mi Xun is one of the best dinners in town; the teahouse cocktails are not to be skipped.

Entry is through Bitieshi, a restored Qing Dynasty courtyard full of books.
city trippers
7:22 AM
Reset the foggy jet lag mind with a few laps in the pool. Then head to breakfast.
8:38 AM
Find He Ming teahouse in People's Park. Get there early to nab a seat and make the most of the people watching with a fresh cup of green tea.
11:19 AM
Walk over to Kuixinglou Street and dive into the creative local scene. Street art is a big thing, as are cool art galleries and delicious street food (xiao chi – snacks – are all the rage in Chengdu, just watch out for the spice!).
1:30 PM
Time for a late lunch at Dongzi Kouzhang Lao'er Liangfen. It's a laidback local spot known for Liangfen noodles (a Sichuan dish of chewy, bouncy noodles). There’s no English menu, so have Google Translate at the ready.
4:14 PM
Head to Daci Temple (if step counts are already high, you can use the DiDi taxi app). It has more than 1600 years of history and some beautiful wall paintings to admire.
6:21 PM
After some downtime and a little rest, make your way down to Jing. The cocktails are totally fun, leave it up to the bartender.
8:30 PM
Dinner is at Mi Xun Teahouse (Michelin-starred). Kung Pao mushrooms are a must. It’s also only a few steps to bed. Win-win.
