Robert DeNiro's TriBeCa passion project operates with the discretion of a private home: no ostentatious lobby, no queues at the bar, just a carefully considered hotel in one of New York's best neighbourhoods. A 1930s Milanese ceiling covers the basement Japanese spa. The rooms are generous by Manhattan standards; the service is exceptional. Genuinely unlike anywhere else in the city.

a long weekend, a week
Robert DeNiro's TriBeCa passion project. Operates like a private home.
city trippers, design lovers
9:02 AM
Despite the get-up-and-go mentality, take your time here. The rooms are too beautiful to rush out of so order a French press of caffeine to your bed.
10:12 AM
Venture outdoors, strolling through the cool cobblestone streets of Tribeca and over to Frenchette Bakery – it’s tucked inside a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it arcade. They bake the best pain au raisins in the whole city.
11:47 AM
Fueled and ready to get steps in, mosey on up to the Meatpacking District for a walk along the Highline – an up-in-the-air floating garden. It’s about a mile and a half of pretty street views and Hudson River scenes.
12:30 PM
Back downtown for a long boozy lunch at the Odeon – a true New York classic. Regulars order strong martinis from midday, you should do the same. Also get plates of steak tartare, shrimp cocktail and crispy fries for the table.
3:46 PM
You’re in one of the best neighbourhoods for shopping. Pop into Todd Snyder (it’s in an old liquor shop) for menswear, 180 The Store for beautiful homeware and Bode for statement fashion pieces.
5:00 PM
Spend some time at the hotel to rest your legs. We love Locanda Locatelli for an afternoon snack, then book in for a treatment at the Shibui Spa. Ask for a mug of tea –it’s a special custom-made blend.
8:00 PM
New York restaurants can’t be beat. Ask the hotel to book you a table at Mr Chow around the corner – this is a legendary cool Chinese food establishment for lychee martinis on tap and lazy Susan plates of water dumplings and Mr Chow’s signature noodles.
