Throw open the curtains and the windows for sea air, to wake up. Then head over to breakfast for a colourful display: watermelon slices, little yoghurt bowls, stacks of plums and the usual cheeses and meats.

These grounds are ridiculously stunning – from big bushy olive trees and brushy herbs and shrubs (the smells…). There are 130 hectares to get lost in.

Menorca does have some really lovely spots to eat, but when ingredients come from only a few steps away, it’s hard to ignore. Keep it light with big leafy salads, grilled vegetables in all forms with Mahon cheese on the side.

Hang out – under an umbrella to break from the afternoon heat – by the pool for a bit. When it gets too warm, dive in. Order a crisp Menorcan wine to something to sip while you lie.

Part of the ethos here – in addition to getting personal with nature – is movement. They put on around 25 activities a week, so take your pick. We like an afternoon yoga session to slow down and stretch.

Hop in the car and over to Mahon, the island’s capital, for a bit of buzz. Kick off with a vermouth rosso at Sa Bodega before fat oysters and cold wine at Oysters Menorca.
