On the Kyle of Tongue, with the mountains of Sutherland pressing in from every side, Lundies House is part of the Wildland collection (the same group behind Killiehuntly in the Cairngorms). The interiors strike a confident Scandi-Scot balance with stone floors, Danish artwork, Scottish-made cabinetry and sheepskin chairs, while bedrooms look out towards Castle Varrich. The steadings are now studio rooms and a self-catered apartment. Dinner is communal, unhurried, and very much the point.

Drift downstairs for a hearty breakfast. Don't rush though, breakfast is prime time for swapping local tips with fellow guests.

Spend the morning exploring, and there are two ends of the scale hill here: the energetic will love tackling Scotland’s most northerly Munro, Ben Hope or the path to the historical ruin of Castle Varrich for something a little more leisurely

Opt for a packed lunch while out and about – including flasks of still warm coffee and a homebaked sweet treat. Find somewhere scenic – like Talmine beach, it's rugged and feels under-the-radar.

Back at Lundies, and time for a soak in the tub or apperitivo by the fireplace in the lounge (the team here remember your order). Whatever you choose, time it with sunset for a candyfloss view.
8:00 PM
Dinner is a three course treat. The tablescaping and team make it feel so curated. Always save room for dessert.
11:10 PM
Take it in the lounge or go for a wander in the garden. Linger long enough and you'll spot stars (and maybe a hint of Northern Lights). The skies are always so clear this far North.
