Grab one of the hotel bikes and go for a gentle cycle through the vineyards. Those wanting something more adventurous can book a longer cycle with Julien, the resident PT, and explore nearby chateaux.

Beneath the wooden beams of 18th-century wine cellars, enjoy lunch on the terrace of La Table du Lavoir. Subtly seasonal and farm-fresh plates, we order the heirloom tomatoes when they’re at their best.

Make the most of the spa -– they know their stuff in here. We love the Crushed Cabernet scrub (we told you they know how to make the most of the grapes) or the Vinosource-Hydra facial treatment. While you’re there, take a dip in the thermal pool.

Stop by Rouge for a glass of something pre-dinner (they’ll suggest a grape you’ll be sure to like). Then, pick up a souvenir bottle, or two, to stuff in the suitcase.

This should be special, especially as La Grand’Vigne has two Michelin stars. Opt for 5- or 7-courses, with a wine pairing (you’re on a vineyard after all). Shirts and jackets are required.

During the design of the hotel, local provenance (including marble from the Pyrenees) and materials of the highest quality were favoured.
The barrel bath, swimming pools and jacuzzi are all fed by a natural water source drawn from 540m below Spa Caudalie.
The menus are local and seasonal, with many ingredients grown in their organic garden (they also have a chicken coop and bee garden).
