Fans of the iconic Gleneagles estate in the Highlands were thrilled when the brand opened a city pad in Edinburgh's New Town. This beautifully grand townhouse carries the same warmth and quality of service into an urban setting: plush interiors, a very good restaurant, and a team who know the city as well as they know the glens. The best of both worlds, delivered very well.

a weekend, a long weekend
The city pad from the Gleneagles team. Same warmth, New Town address.
city trippers, culture vultures
8:11 AM
Mosey on down the beautiful staircase to find The Spence for breakfast. Order the crispy eggs and bacon bap with a turmeric booster. Coffee too. Look up to spot the domed ceiling and cameos of famous Scotsmen.
9:57 AM
Come rain or shine, Edinburgh must be explored on foot. Sweet cobbled streets and historical alleyways are all part of the charm, so grab a takeaway coffee from nearby Lowdown and get strolling.
12:30 PM
Grab lunch at The Palmerston. Once a bank (like Gleneagles Townhouse), now a bistro. The menu changes daily depending on what’s in season and the in-house bakery means sweet treats are a triumph. Leave room for ice cream from Mary’s Milk Bar though, there’s often something funky, like ginger and lemongrass with a peanut butter ripple.
3:28 PM
Pop into Walker Slater (they're tweed specialists) en route back to the hotel, and once there, head downstairs to the former bank vault and seek out the spa. Whether forward thinking (the cryotherapy chambers) or relaxing (treatment rooms), there's R&R for you on the cards.
6:35 PM
Toast the end of the day at Lamplighters – you'll be able to watch the sun set over the city up here. The Super Star mixes two types of whisky – Singelton 12 year old and Talisker 10 year old with cranberry, peach, lemon and frothy egg white.
8:30 PM
For dinner, head to another Edinburgh (well, you’re in Leith here) hot spot – Ardfern. Enjoy a small plates dinner: baked fish crumpet, popcorn chicken, asparagus flatbread accompanied by a bottle of wine from their bottle shop.

They’ve chosen careful restoration over splurging on shiny new things. From giving the ornate dome ceiling some TLC to re-gilding details throughout, they were committed to respecting the heritage of the building.
Where possible, they've introduced repurposed interior elements, like the recycled timber terrazzo floors in the wellness space.
Food menus are provenance-led. If it's seasonal and can be found locally, they'll champion it. Scottish through and through.
