Something unmistakably special happens at Gleneagles. The team champion Scotland with real warmth, from the 850 acres of estate to Defender picnic runs and world-class fishing, while the interiors wrap you up in everything the country does best. Guests arrive in Barbour and waders or head straight to the spa; either works. Our top tip: book your next stay before you leave.

a long weekend, a week
The 850-acre estate has its own falconry and famous whisky bar.
country living, wellness junkies, ski bunnies
8:11 AM
Wake up for breakfast. It's a tough decision: leaving the fluffy beds, but knowing a grand breakfast awaits you downstairs. Pancakes are made in front of you, alongside a splendid spread of artisan products and ingredients. Ask to sit in The Orangery, the light is so pretty there. Don't miss the chance to try the Gleneagles & Co smoked salmon.
9:30 AM
Throw on Wellington boots and a jacket, it’s time to explore. Opt for clay pigeon shooting or an off-roading session. No matter the pursuit, it’ll be a good time.
11:00 AM
Suitably muddy and satisfied with your morning adventure, switch gears and head to the spa to unwind.
1:00 PM
Go for a hearty lunch at The Birnam. The Birnam Guest Steak is always a crowd pleaser, sourced from their network of local farmers.
3:12 PM
Take a pause before the evening kicks in. Afternoon bath in your room or find a spot by the lobby fireplace to tuck into a good book (you'll have a greater chance of bumping into the resident pup, Callie)
6:47 PM
Head down for pre-dinner cocktails at the American Bar – do dress up for this. There isn't a bad seat in the house (interiors are an ode to the 1920s), but we adore the love seat. So romantic. We also love the Amber Stem cocktail made with whisky (of course), rosehip vermouth and bitters.
8:30 PM
Dinner at The Strathearn. Expect tableside theatre –order the beef wellington and leave room to explore the cheese trolley – golden era of railway travel inspired interiors and someone playing the piano. Magic. Glad rags advised for this, it's a special evening.

Classic dishes at Gleneagles' flagship restaurant, The Strathearn, use seasonal, locally sourced produce – including beef Wellington and Scottish smoked salmon.
The hotel collaborated with Scottish artisans in order to enhance its historic charm during recent renovations. The Century Bar, for instance, features restored original panelling, art deco-style lighting, and accessories crafted by local ceramicists.
We love their fine foods pantry range, Gleneagles & Co, which has been developed with local producers. The collection includes jams, oils, vinegars, dressings, shortbread, oatcakes, and chocolates.
