When the Experimental Group took over this Grade II-listed Cotswolds manor (built in 1695, once a refuge during WW2, and said to have inspired Lewis Carroll's Wonderland), the hotel world paid attention. Dorothée Meilichzon brought wavy lave stone basins, bright patterns, and colours of all shades. A destination to stay put in, gardens, an excellent spa, and cocktails to sip all night.

country living, wellness junkies
9:02 AM
No need for alarm clocks, tune into the subtle pace of the Cotswolds. Embrace the late start: grabbing breakfast downstairs, reading in bed, lingering about in the tub…
10:12 AM
Twenty minutes away by car is Chedworth Roman Villa, a still-standing cluster of ruins from Roman rule dating back to the 4th century. The room of mosaics that are still intact is jaw-droppingly beautiful.
12:30 PM
Pizza? In the countryside? Oh yeah, this is the good stuff. And in a pub, nonetheless. There’s a fluffy base, great toppings, and craft beer on tap, we regularly return to The Stump for these wondrous doughy pies. The death sauce, a fiery dip with a kick, is called death sauce for a reason.
3:03 PM
Pop into The Green Dragon Shop for local produce, drinks and fun snacks to bring home. It’s seasonal, independent, local and completely charming.
5:25 PM
Find time for an early evening swim – it tends to be a little quieter at this time. Whether you're doing laps or happy floating around, take to your pace.
8:00 PM
Grab a pre-dinner cocktail (these guys know what they’re doing) and a few light bites in the bar – we love the Gloucestershire Old Spot croquettes and Stinking Bishop gougères. Hop on over to dinner for some plates by London chef Jackson Boxer. Order the caviar with potato crisps and sour cream to kick off.

Chef Boxer knows how to weave together local produce but with a Gallic spin. They work a lot with what’s grown in their own garden.
Because the original building is Grade II listed, they were particularly careful with the restoration. They recognise the importance of preserving history and stories.
In the spa, you’ll find only all-natural organic products use for treatments.
