Breakfast is a ritual for Cristiana, so follow the scent of freshly brewed coffee to the kitchen, where a very pretty table has been set. Fresh juices, homemade cakes, yoghurt, honey and local cheeses, freshly baked bread and croissants, eggs cooked to your preference.

It’s definitely tempting to roam a little further afield, but stick to the walls of the city for now. Spend the morning wandering through the winding streets and cobbled lanes, spotting that suspended footbridge every so often.

There aren't many restaurants inside the city, but we like having lunch at Alma Civita – try to nab a table outside if the weather is playing fair and order the tagliolini with zucchini pesto when it’s in season.

Have a deliberately slow afternoon. Spend some time in the gardens catching up on your reading list. You'll spot sweet resident dogs Olivia and Ortensia wandering around.

Aperitivo will be whipped up by your hosts before a feast in the kitchen for dinner. There isn't a set menu, so it will be seasonal, local and delicious. The candelit table is totally something to swoon over.

Go for a nightcap in The Wolf’s Lair – the cosy cellar. Listen to some music, have a tinkle on the piano, and if it's a chilly night, the fireplace will be roaring. Cosy.
