The western shore of Lake Como is where this eight-room guesthouse was built in 1845, passed down through generations, and restored in 2011 by the same family. Named after the owner's great-great-grandfather, it honours his legacy with pastel walls, original floors, and heirloom furniture. Every room overlooks the lake; breakfasts on the terrace, evenings in the honesty wine cellar.

a weekend, a long weekend
A Lake Como guesthouse built in 1845. Still in the same family.
almost local, country living, slow travel

Despite being in Italy, breakfast is a big deal here. Generous, local, and made with love: cheese and charcuterie from the family’s own épicerie, still-warm croissants from the bakery just around the corner, and homemade tarts baked by owner Alessandro himself.
10:16 AM
It’s all about secret coves and quiet charm. The family (and the team) know the lake like the back of their hand, and they’ll happily point you towards the prettiest, most peaceful spots to see from the water.

Cà Spiga has its own little foodie gem: Da Luciano, a cosy café and bottega run by the family. Just pop into the épicerie, choose whatever catches your eye, and they’ll whip it up for you on the spot. Local, simple, delicious.

There’s a proper stone hot tub tucked away in the house for a warm soak – but if you're after a dip in the lake, a little beach is just 3 minutes away. Just grab a towel from the trunk on your way out.
5:57 PM
You’ve heard of an honesty bar – now meet the honesty wine cave. Head down, choose a bottle you like, jot it down in the notebook, and enjoy it in the garden. No fuss, just good grapes and fresh air.
8:00 PM
Once a shipyard, now one of the best spots for fresh fish and proper Italian comfort food. As for dessert, there’s really only one right answer: tiramisu.

Local is in the name – including the produce and ingredients they source from nearby growers who really hone their craft, and yield.
No waste here – almost everything in the hotel, that can be, is recycled.
All the statement furniture (and it’s certainly swoon worthy) is original.
