Bougainvillaea, breezy palms, and vintage Moroccan textiles mark your arrival at Al Moudira, which brings an unexpected and transportive Marrakech spirit to the edge of Luxor. The owner collected the furnishings over 30 years; the painted ceilings and tiled courtyard feel genuinely authentic rather than designed. A swim in the pool at dusk, with the Theban Hills turning pink, is a particular and memorable highlight.

Vintage Moroccan textiles bring an unexpected Marrakech spirit to Luxor.

8:34 AM
Early in the morning, it’s time for a quiet breakfast in the sweet courtyard surrounded by bougainvillaea and the birds. Order the Egyptian breakfast. Chances are you'll be joined by fellow explorers too, as it's always good to get out early.
10:02 AM
Head out in one of the vintage fleet to the temple of Hatshepsut, followed by an exploration of the Valley of the Kings. Stop by the Colossi of Memnon on the way back to the hotel – it’s impressive. Your camera, sunglasses and water are all packing essentials.
12:02 PM
Back at the hotel, change your linens for swimwear and make a beeline for the pool. Hide from the sun in a breezy cabana, playing card games, or cool off in the water. Order lunch at the restaurant there: wood-fired pizzas and leafy green salads sourced from their farm.
3:36 PM
Explore the farm in the late afternoon (the animals are a highlight) and then retreat to your cool room to escape the afternoon heat and have a siesta – Egyptian cotton sheets and a fluffy four-poster bed make light work of this.
5:30 PM
Time for a final adventure – sailing a felucca on the Nile. The hotel team will pack refreshments for you. It's a magical way to see the sunset and spot the temples along the East bank.
8:45 PM
Dinner is at Khan Al Moudira (order the Koshari – pasta, fried rice, chickpeas) followed by a nightcap in the bar. Walk back to your room and count the stars.

Egyptian cotton sheets are made by Malaika Cairo, an organisation established by Margarita Andrade, one of the property’s owners, that helps to empower women in the region through teaching embroidery and craftsmanship.
They take pride in producing most of what they need in the kitchen, including eggs, butter, milk, yoghurt, poultry, vegetables, wheat, and a good portion of meat.
The hotel has been working with the same team of artisans for many years, and members of the wonderful staff come from the surrounding community.
